Course-Considerations

10 FIS rules, which cross-country-skiers should consider when practicing their sport.

  • Consideration for others: Each cross-country-skier must behave in such a way that they do not endanger or injure others
  • Signalling and direction of travel: Markings and signals (signs) should be noted and followed. On the course the skier is obliged  to ski in the direction indicated.
  • Choice of the groove: On double and multiple grooves you must ski on the right hand side. Cross-country-skiers in groups must run in the right side groove one behind the other.
  • Overtaking: Overtake on the right or the left in a free groove or on the outside of the grooves. The front is not obliged to move from their present groove . They should only move if they feel they can accomplish this safely
  • Oncoming traffic: With oncoming traffic everyone should move to the right. The ascending skier is obliged to move from the groove to make space for the skier skiing downwards.
  • Pole guidance: When overtaking, and with oncoming traffic, the poles are to be held close to the body.
  • Adjustment of your speed to the conditions: Each cross-country-skier must, particularly on downwards slopes, adjust their speed and behavior to the area conditions, and take into account the density of traffic and range of vision and adapt accordingly. You must keep a sufficient and safe distance to the skier in front. Please take into account that if the front skier falls you must be able to avoid any collision.
  • Keep the course free: When you have come to a stop, please step away from the groove. A cross-country-skier who has fallen has to move from the groove as quickly as possible.
  • Assistance: In accidents everyone is obligated to lend assistance.
  • Identification: Everyone whether a witness or companion, whether responsible or not, must give their particulars in the case of an accident.

Skating is possible only on the tracks prepared for it!  (Steinbock/Schwendeloipe).
