Alpine cattle drives & herding 2019

After months on the lush mountain meadows, shepherds and animals return to the valley.

Look forward to a successful alpine summer together with the alpine herdsmen and welcome the decorated animals with their big bells, dr'Schella, at the Alpabtrieb and at the Scheidplatz in Riezlern.

At the Scheidplatz in Riezlern (between Breitachbrücke and Kanzelwandbahn) you will get many insights into the respective alpine pastures and the alpine farming in the Kleinwalsertal before the arrival of the animals.

A small farmer and grocer's market with agricultural products, hearty live music and the Walser Buura with local products, provide for a convivial supporting program.

Alpe Bärgunt
Arrival about 9:30

At about 7.45 o'clock the Alpine herdsmen leave with 252 heads of young cattle, seven dairy cows and 13 horses from the Alpe. Their way leads via Baad (about 8.15 clock) to Riezlern, where they are expected around 9.30 clock.

Zwerenalpe
Arrival about 11.30

From the Zwerenalpe at 10.45 clock, 106 pieces of young cattle, a shepherd cow and five dairy goats to Riezlern will path their way down the hill. They reach the Scheidplatz at about 11.30.

Alpe Galtöde / Schwarzwasser
Arrival about 13.00

The shepherds leave the Alpe around 11.15 am and reach the Scheidplatz via the Auenhütte and Schwarzwassertalstraße to Riezlern. 147 young cattle, 21 suckler cows and two horses arrive at 1 pm.

Forced labor and livestock farming are a stressful situation for helpers, farmers and animals and all visitors are asked to be more cautious and reluctant - especially when loading the animals before returning to their usual farms.
Please note that there are traffic restrictions on the Walserstraße and Schwarzwassertalstraße.
