Now it starts - the flowering garden in the context of the BE[E]Kleinwalsertal project arises. What for? To serve as home to various insect and wild bee species.

Do you already know the smallest hotel in Kleinwalsertal? It located in one of the meanwhile numerous flowering areas, which originated from Riezlern to Baad. As part of the BE[E]Kleinwalsertal project, there were actions and projects to take part throughout the summer. One of these was the creation of the flowering garden in Hirschegg, including a 5 star hotel for insects. We documented how the construction went and what the final product looks like. From the beginning to the current state and how it will continue in the future ...

But first dig over

Monday morning, May 8th - it starts. All of a sudden there is the sound of shoveling and dredging, right in Hirschegg across from our office. 'What are they building there?', I ask myself and I am promptly get informed that the flowering garden for the bees and insects is finally being created.

Sure, of course! BE[E]Kleinwalsertal goes into another round! Everything is being prepared so that the insect hotel can be built and the garden planted. I'm curious - Construction will continue until the beginning of July, then it starts to bloom in the flowering garden.

And suddenly honeycombs...

On June 8th, the smallest hotel in Kleinwalsertal will be built in a completely new form - in honeycomb form to be precise. Honeycomb for honeycomb, the hotel is enlarged and finally completed 4 floors.

As part of the Walser Gourmet days 2018, on June 10th, the insect hotel will be filled by the participants. Under the expert guidance of permaculture specialist Andi Haller, nature materials such as wood, straw and hay were diligently collected and distributed into the honeycombs.

Incidentally, the insect hotel is directly opposite the Walserhaus in Hirschegg, bus line 1.

Quotation for thought ...

"Once the bee disappears from the earth, man has only four years left to live: no more bees, no more pollination, no more plants, no more animals, no more humans."

Albert Einstein

Do these signs look familiar? No? Then it's probably because they've been around just recently. The BE[E]Kleinwalsertal information signs mark the newly created flowering areas throughout Kleinwalsertal. So if you see these information signs, you know this meadow grows for the bees & insects. By the way, many private landlords are also involved. Pay attention when you go hiking.

Ready to grow

From today, 29.06.2018, the seedlings can be admired in the flower garden. Here and there was planted diligently. But what happens to the rest of the area that is still unplanted?

In the future here grows native flower meadow, with flowers, the (wild) bees especially like. For the garden that means a lot of green space and beautiful flowers to admire. Incidentally, you can also linger in the flower garden, because many benches offer a great view towards Riezlern.

What's next?

Now the BE[E]Kleinwalsertal flowering garden needs time to bloom and prosper. Many more flower fields will be created in Kleinwalsertal and we look forward to every photo with #beekleinwalsertal, if you have spotted one.

If you are already here, you can also pick up a seed packet in the tourist office in Hirschegg. Maybe you will soon have a flowering garden for the (wild) bees and insects in your own garden?

Project with long-term effect

Now that the foundation has been laid for the flowering areas and the insect hotel, we can continue next summer; new flowering areas, new seedlings and programs around insects and bees. So it will be colorful in the summer of 2019! With the project we set a sign and carry it out into the world, so that more and more small bee oases can emerge.

Tip: If you want it to bloom in your home, then join in and order the seed mixture for the summer flowers home.
