The museum is currently closed for renovation work.
The Walser Museum of Local History is located in the center of Riezlern, next to the municipal office.
Dear friends of the Walser Museum in Riezlern. The museum will remain closed for the time being.
The Walser Museum in Riezlern is getting old. From its beginnings in 1963 to the present, the museum has captured and communicated regional history. This long-term period requires more and more urgently for new forms of presentation and communication, for a lively presentation and a contemporary narrative of one's own history and tradition, and not least for a redefinition of the museum's self-image. We took advantage of the remodeling of the museum building to develop new perspectives for the museum.
At the same time, the museum also wants to strive for broader social acceptance, appreciation and active participation. In the future, it will become a place of productive excitement: a balancing and meaningful bridge between the enduring cultural heritage on the one hand and the tense and dynamic present on the other.
The process of reorientation was coordinated by Stefan Heim (head of the Walser Museum and chronicler of the municipality of Mittelberg) and Katrin Berchtold (cultural service / Kleinwalsertal Tourismus eGen) in cooperation with the cultural officer of the community Mittelberg Franz Türtscher. Bruno Winkler and Johannes Inama (office Rath & Winkler - projects for museum and education) accompanied the project with their professional expertise and many years of practical experience in the museum sector.
On July 4, 2017, the museum concept was presented to the public in the Walserhaus in Hirschegg and given the go-ahead by the local council on 29 January 2018 for the implementation of the museum concept. The core group worked out together with the company Impuls Design the design planning for the museum NEW. The municipal council voted on April 2, 2019 with 14: 9 votes for the implementation of the plan.
The official reopening was scheduled for March / April 2020.
At the meeting of local council members on 13 May 2019, at the beginning of the meeting, municipal representative Hermann Haller, as chairman of the Walser list, petitioned for the resolution of the item "Conducting a referendum on the concept of" Museum New ".
From the Municipal Council meeting of 13 May 2019:
