Would you like to lend a hand and actively maintain the natural and cultural landscape in Kleinwalsertal? The volunteer activities are an invitation to immerse yourself in a natural and cultural landscape worth protecting and to make a contribution to preserving regional cycles and functioning ecosystems.

Background to the campaign Why is something like this needed?

The charming landscape in Kleinwalsertal is partly due to centuries of small-scale agriculture and alpine farming. By alternating between meadows, pastures, moors and forest in combination with different cutting times and forms of use, numerous niches have been created for a large number of animal and plant species. Where forests would otherwise dominate, there are open habitats with meadows and pastures with an impressive diversity of species. Without care and management, scrub encroachment would quickly occur, leading to a decline in habitats and species. Conversely, intensification with increased use of machinery and fertilizers would also endanger the diversity of nature.

Lend a hand yourself! What are your tasks?

As part of the volunteer campaigns, interested people have the opportunity to lend a hand themselves. Together, we can make a valuable contribution to preserving the cultural landscape and get to know the natural environment from a different perspective.
The action days call for volunteers who are happy to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. In concrete terms, this means

  • Clearing alpine areas of young growth and stones
  • Maintenance and renovation of hiking trails
  • Removing invasive plants and creating space for native species

Remove himalayan balsam action – 13.06.2025 & 10.07.2025 Why does the himalayan balsam have to go?

Such pretty purple flowers have no place here? Yes, you read that right, because even if the balsam looks really beautiful at first glance when it is in bloom, it is unfortunately an introduced species, a so-called neophyte, which is virtually taking the water out of our native plants. Himalayan balsam spreads rapidly through the jumping seeds, hence the name, displacing important native species and taking a lot of water from the soil. This makes the soil unstable. So help us get to the root of the problem and remove the young plants before the first seeds are sown.

Road renovation campaign – 24.06.2025 WHY DOES A HIKING TRAIL NEED CARE?

Have you ever wondered how the hiking trails actually get to the mountain? Where the first ones walk, the next ones follow. This often creates a real network of well-trodden paths or wide trails that often take us to the summit. But a path like this needs to be practical and well-maintained. So that you don't trip over stones lying around or the path floats away underneath you the next time it rains, our beautiful routes need to be cleaned out again. For the next perfect mountain experience, lend a hand and help us with the path renovation on the Ifen.

FOR REFRESHMENT IN BETWEEN

IS THERE ANYTHING TO EAT?
