FIS rules of conduct

The FIS rules of the International Ski Federation FIS are worldwide rules of conduct that apply and must be observed in the ski areas and thus for all winter sports enthusiasts. The rules exist to prevent accidents and mutual danger.

1. Respect each other

Skier and snowboarder must always behave in such a way that others are not endangered or prejudiced others. Check your own equipment in advance to make sure there are no defects.

2. Control your own speed and style of skking and snowboarding

Skier and snowboarder must move in control. You must adapt your speed to the ability, the traffic density as well as the snow, terrain and weather conditions, in order to avoid collisions.

3. Choose your route carefully

Who rides in front of us has the right of way. Accordingly, the route must be chosen in such a way that there is no danger for skiers or snowboarders ahead.

4. Overtake

It may be overtaken from the right or left and only if sufficient space for movement is ensured.

5. Entering, starting and moving upwards

If you enter a downhill run, start again after a stop, or want to swing uphill, make sure that you can do it without danger to yourself and others.

6. Stopping

Unclear points (such as terrain crests, tight bends, narrow pistes) must be avoided as a stopping point and cleared as soon as possible in the event of an accident to avoid to endanger others.

7. Ascent & Descent

Ski tourers ascending or skiers and snowboarder descending on foot must walk along the edge of the slope to avoid to endanger to others.

8. Respect signs and marking

Skier and snowboarder must pay attention to markings and signs. The choice of the slopes (blue, red, black) is to be adapted to the skill. Closed slopes or terrain must be respected.

9. Assistance

In case of accidents, everyone is obliged to provide assistance (for example, first-aid services to the best of their knowledge and conscience and communication with the rescue services)

10. ID required

Skier and snowboarder must be able to identify themselves in the event of an accident - whether as a party or as a witness.
