Kriegerdenkmal - War memorial

The war memorial is located below the Gasthof Walserkreuz in Hirschegg.

The war memorial, built in 1935 and impressively reminiscent of the townscape, is a reminder of the fallen soldiers of the World Wars. It came about through voluntary work and donations. In a call at that time it was said: We turn to the population. Traders and farmers have a good year behind them. The construction costs of about 5,000 Reichsmark could easily be raised. Who would have thought, however, that an even greater calamity would soon befall the country? In 1956, the names of the fallen and missing persons of World War II were engraved on marble tablets. The oversized soldiers figures in the barrel-vaulted interior are a beautiful carving by Wilhelm Math from Oberstdorf.
