A unique project to save the bees and insects

BEEcareful Kleinwalsertal

Kleinwalsertal has set itself the goal of being an oasis for bees and insects. "Once the bee disappears from earth, man has only four years left to live. "(Albert Einstein, 1949) Today, in 2018, the useful pollinators are not doing very well. Several initiatives within the project BEEcareful Kleinwalsertal are setup to counteract the extinction of bees and insects!

Facts about the bees

Rare bee oasis

Kleinwalsertal is a veritable bee oasis with its extensive pastures and the wide range of flowers. Elsewhere, large-scale farming, monocultures and pesticides make life difficult for bees.

Bees breed

The whimsical bees breed, Carnica in Kleinwalsertal, is considered gentle. It is perfectly adapted to the bitter weather in our high mountain valley.

Beekeeper & Honey

In Kleinwalsertal there are nine beekeeping companies, which together hold around 500 bee colonies. For a glass of mountain blossom honey about 100.000 km flight distance is covered.

our World without bees

A decline in the number of bees would lead to massive crop losses: around 40% less apples and cherries, 12% less pears and 5% less carrots would be available without their pollination performance.

Recipes & Tips from beekeepers

Honey from bees is also highly appreciated in local restaurants. Jürgen Scharnagl, beekeeper and chef in Kleinwalsertal, reveals his recipe for crunchy honey on goat cheese - quite simple to imitate!
