Regional & specialties at the Walser weekly market

It's a fixed date in the calendar: From May, the peaceful village square in Hirschegg comes to life again. Every Friday. From you can stroll, feast and talk to the market people from 9.00 am to 12.30 pm.

The best start into Friday mornings is with a fine cappuccino at the barista and coffee roaster from Oberstdorf. No one else can conjure up such beautiful patterns in the fluffy milk foam with the light brown crema! He likes to tell the visitors something about the perfect roasting of his beans.

If you bring a small appetite for breakfast, you can treat yourself to a fresh pastry for coffee. You just have to follow your nose - because the baker brings his oven with him. Usually it smokes quite cheerfully out of the stovepipe, then it will not be long before the crispy baked loaves are ready to serve. Your hiking snack is secured.

What tastes best with the fresh bread? Of course, a spicy piece of mountain cheese and a ribald stag or chamois sausage. These are available, for example, from Herbert Edlinger. From his quaint wooden shingled car, you can taste the cheese and sausages. A highlight is also the finely cut, dark red beef ham! Most of the products come from the Walser Buura, an association of farmers from Kleinwalsertal. Anyway, you can easily get into a conversation with Herbert and sometimes you can get a taste of the hazelnut boose - self distilled, of course!

Speaking of chatting: If you paid attenteion during your arrival in Kleinwalsertal at the boarder (Walserschanz), you probably recognize someone at the weekly market: The beekeeper grinning with the honeycomb "We've been expecting you" is actually waiting for you. In the center of a selection of Walser mountain blossom honey, forest cream honey and propolis sits Achim Schneider. In the meantime he keeps an eye on his bees via his bee livecam.

Apart from that, you can poke around the other market stalls quite comfortably: There are beautiful wooden things, cloths, socks, great things from the local arts and crafts, boose and liqueurs, jams, sweets and herbs. Get a vitamin boost and buy fruits and vegetables from Bodensee and the surrounding areas directly at the market ...
